Bugs Bunny, and how I first fell in love with cartoons

10 Mar

Been a while!

bugsbirthday_snoozeRecently, I’ve been thinking about my earliest experiences watching cartoons. It was definitely Looney Tunes– specifically Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Woody Woodpecker. This would have been in the 1980s– early mornings, Saturdays. I’d get up early just to watch.

It was a cool time in my life. Bugs Bunny remains my favorite cartoon character to this day. I still love Daffy, Porky and Woody too. Later, I’d watch Eek! The Cat, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons and the Disney Afternoon, but these early cartoon experiences are the ones that have stuck with me the most.

I recently tried rewatching some Eek! (still VERY watchable), Animaniacs (still watchable), Tiny Toons (kinda still watchable) and Disney Afternoon cartoons (no longer watchable, for me, at least). I need my cartoons extra funny. Slapstick. Sight gags. Insane, ridiculous and weird things. All of the aspects and facets that modern cartoons like Spongebob have adopted– the stretching, etc.

I recently found a large file of supposedly ALL (or, most) of the Bugs Bunny cartoons. It is 12GB, and it does contain a LOT of cartoons. They are of varying sound and video quality, but are all an enjoyable watch. I grabbed the file and threw it on a USB drive, and I’ve been going through all of them. Despite all the episodes I watched back then, there are still ones I haven’t seen! Some really amazing stuff in this file.bugsbday_rhapsodyrabbit

I’m not going to advocate pirating, illegally downloading media, or torrents.

So, that said, I did find this website with basically all the Bugs (and some Daffy) cartoons in a streaming format similar to what I downloaded. Check out THIS website!

Kids today should check out these old cartoons. They still stand the test of time– they hold up. This stuff is SO funny-sight gags, Bugs’ hilarious and unaffected demeanor– it’s all great, classic stuff. All worth a watch.

Daffy and Porky cartoons are also worth checking out, but a word of caution — Woody Woodpecker’s early stuff is NOT as good as the later episodes I watched. The same might be said of the early Bugs and Daffy stuff. Mid to slightly later periods of all these cartoons are where the money is– check those classics out.

Until next time!
