More Info and Updates. Gumball. Wander Over Yonder. LEGO Simpsons.

3 May

The Wattersons.

Amazing World of Gumball – the 40-episode season 3 is currently airing Thursdays at 6:30pm on Cartoon Network. It is the first season that Gumball will be voiced by voice actor Jacob Hopkins.

American Dad! is moving to TBS for a 15-episode 11th season to premiere July 2014. Things on the show are said to be staying the same, despite the departure of Mike Barker from the series in November 2013 over creative differences.

Aqua TV Show Show – season 11 begins 2015 on Adult Swim.

Bojack Horseman – season 1 premieres August 22nd 2014 on Netflix.

Brickleberry – season 3 begins September 16th 2014 on Comedy Central.

China IL – season 3 begins ..? TBA on Adult Swim, but currently in production. (Sundays fall 2014?)

Metalocalypse – ..?

Mr. Pickles – season 1 premiere confirmed for fall 2014 on adult swim.

Regular Show – season 5 currently continues to air on Cartoon Network.

Rick and Morty – season 1 ended in April. The 10-episode season 2 is currently in production, with at least the first episode already written. It’s slated to air late 2014 or early 2015.

Sanjay and Craig – renewed for two more seasons, the first slated to air later in 2014, and the third in 2015.

The Simpsons – season 26 continues later in 2014, and FXX will marathon all 500+ episodes of The Simpsons back to back in August, marking the longest marathon in TV history.

South Park – season 18 begins September 2014 on Comedy Central (probably on Thursdays)

SpongeBob Squarepants – season 9 continues, next likely confirmed episode to air is is “Yeti Krabs”, TBA 2014 on Nickelodeon. The Nickelodeon episodes probably haven’t been getting much attention due to the current ongoing production of the second Spongebob movie.

Squidbillies – season 9 begins ..? TBA on Cartoon Network (Sundays fall 2014?)

Superjail! – season is currently airing at 11:45pm on Adult Swim on Sundays.

Wander Over Yonder – season 1 continues on Disney XD only, and the series is currently deep into a 39-episode season. March 31st 2014 marked the first WOY episode to air exclusively on Disney XD, and not on Disney Channel first.

SO….Perhaps we’ll see the start of Mr. Pickles on Adult Swim soon, and maybe Nickelodeon will grace us with one or more new SpongeBob episode(s)!

Dream Futurama Merch, or… “Why Are There No Scruffy Toys?!?”

6 Feb
Scruffy

Scruffy.

On Twitter, @GotFuturama asked the question “What one piece of Futurama merchandise doesn’t exist that you really wish did?” and it got me thinking.

I quickly realized that instead of trying to cram my answer into the usual ‘140-minus-original-tweet’ characters, that I would need to elaborate on the topic of ‘dream Futurama merchandise’ in a new post, here!

Futurama is easily one of my favorite animated shows. I began thinking about the different TYPES of merch that I know exist, or that I would potentially wish existed. I’m sure there are all kinds of Futurama shirts out there, even though I’ve never really looked (Not sure why I haven’t! I have MANY ATHF shirts!) Really, though, any design of shirt could be easily designed and printed off.

So naturally, next, my mind went to toys.

Most people know that I collect a few toys here and there that interest me. Futurama has SO MANY great characters for potential toys, just like its sister show, The Simpsons, and a good number have definitely been produced – at least all the more main characters.

I own a few of these Futurama toys — the KidRobot ones, the tall-ish Leela figure with moon base — I even had a tin Nibbler (that I sold! Argh!)

Other Futurama toys that were produced (but I don’t [yet] own) include the 2002-2003 Horrible Gelatinous Blob and brain slug toys made by Dark Horse and the excellent Toynami figures made from 2007-2009. Toynami produced a great selection of character figures, even including such one-off characters as Nudar and Nixon’s head in a jar. I also saw a picture of The Don from the Robot Mafia, although it may have been a comic-con exclusive or a prototype.

So, some toys exist.

But Simpsons toys feature pretty much EVERY character you can think of, (for good reason – it’s a more popular show and has been on the air forever) and recently even had a LEGO set produced. Hell, even Family Guy toys are expansive now with their selection of characters! Again, another TV show that is still actively producing new episodes.

Futurama has been canceled twice, from two different networks, but it has a SOLIDLY cool, weird science fiction foundation. That’s why I feel like the Futurama toys that have been produced are missing all kinds of cool possibilities and elements that would be really great to see in a piece. I was surprised at how many toy ideas I was able to generate by simply skimming through the list of Futurama episodes. After that, I of course researched to try and find (what I feel are ‘missing’) toy ideas that are already in existence somewhere. But I couldn’t find evidence that the below character figures or playsets had been produced or even prototyped as of now, ANYWHERE!

Here are MULTIPLE ideas for Futurama toys I’d love to see:

– Scruffy!!!! (Sal has a KidRobot figure! Why is there no Scruffy?!?!)

– Slurms McKenzie figure w/ Slurm Factory playset (+ huge Wormulon mom-slug?!?)

– A full set/pack of robot figures (I saw one, but it only had 4 figures, and was missing a potential Robot Santa, Robot Mafia bots [Clamps!], Calculon, Flexo, or Hedonism Bot.. plus many more… Tinny Tim? Others from All My Circuits?)

– Bender as a were-car (how cool would this be?!?!)

– Nibbler in his spaceship.

– The giant space-whale from “Mobius Dick”.

– Any figures of any of the sewer mutants.

– More heads in jars!! The possibilities for these are nearly limitless.

– Amazon women jungle/temple playset, with Fem-puter.

– Anything with all the characters as fish from “Naturama”.

– Mr. Peppy the bone vampire.

– Fry on the Scooty-Puff Jr. surrounded by giant brains in space!

So, there are the Futurama toys I wish existed. My thoughts on “one” piece of Futurama merch that I wished existed turned into an entire collection, but I stand behind all these decisions. I also happen to know that there are some extremely talented toy customizers out there who could probably produce these (for example, my friend made a large scale Mr. Peppy!) Hell, I have a lot of ideas for MY fledgling toy company after thinking about this!

🙂

Image

Whoa!

Futurama AND Aqua Something You Know Whatever, both having their season premieres in ONE BEAUTIFUL WEEK?!?

Yes.

I’m so glad I have a DVR now because who knows what’ll go on next Wednesday and Sunday.

But I’m going to TRY to catch them.

Check out the full compilation of ALL CURRENTLY RELEASED OFFICIAL IMAGES from this next season of Futurama (7A) on Facebook.

Looks like it’ll be an amazing season, as always.

For me, being as Aqua Teen Hunger Force (briefly Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1, now known as Aqua Something You Know Whatever) is my FAVORITE cartoon, nay, TELEVISION SHOW of ALL TIME, you can guess that I’m pretty psyched about next week.

Sci-fi and absurdism! Wednesday and Sunday!

So, Futurama next week on Comedy Central, 10/9c.

You can follow Comedy Central’s own countdown to its air HERE.

As for Aqua Something, next Sunday at midnightish on adult swim (on Cartoon Network).

And HOLY CRAP THEY HAVE A TUMBLR BLOG COUNDOWN THING FOR IT.

Yeah, I’ll be following that.

HOW WAS I NOT?!?

ARE YOU PSYCHED?!?

YOU SHOULD BE!!

A Year In Cartoons – 2011 To 2012 – A Rundown

30 May
Regular Show

Realistic Mordecai & Rigby

It’s been almost a year since I’ve posted!

To be fair, I moved (probably several times), lost several jobs, and I’m raising a 5 year old.

But he loves cartoons too!

For all of you on Twitter, many of you know that I’m on there constantly, of course – (twitter.com/animatedtvblog).

I’m changing the name of the blog here to “Animated TV Blog” like I use over on Twitter.

This year had a ton of great shows – Animation Domination, of course, with The MacFarlane Trinity: Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show.

We saw the rise in popularity of the amazing Bob’s Burgers, the cancellation of Napoleon Dynamite and Allen Gregory (thankfully!) and of course, my lifelong love, The Simpsons is still on the air and going strong (phooey to those who bitch about it!)

I’ve gathered together for the next post or two some interesting tidbits.

Futurama, as many know, is back in full force, and on Comedy Central starting in June 20th (check out the countdown here!) This last season of South Park and Ugly Americans were both pretty excellent – they had their hits and misses, all all series do (NONE of the series I’m mentioning are exempt from this rule!)

Aqua Something You Know Whatever starts in June as well on Cartoon Network’s adult swim – the 24th – and Squidbillies begins its new season soon also. Metalocalypse is well underway for this season too. There’s still a ton of great cartoons on adult swim!

The days on Cartoon Network are full of Regular Show and Adventure Time on most Mondays, sometimes The Amazing World of Gumball.

REALLY sad to see Secret Mountain Fort Awesome and Problem Solverz get cancelled.

And we never got our Cheyenne Cinnamon or Soul Quest Overdrive! Argh.

MTV did bring back Beavis and Butt-head, which honestly, I LOVED.

FX has Archer and Unsupervised (which I liked, hopefully it stays on air – it’s been renewed for a second season!)

Even SpongeBob Squarepants on Nick has been having great episodes lately! Some misses, but mostly hits.

I believe that’s mostly it for the moment.

In an upcoming post, I was inspired to write a “20 Essential American Cartoons” list, based on another one I found online – and mine is a VAST improvement!

So, here I am. I’m back.

Upcoming Chris Prynoski (Titmouse Studios) Interview, Season Finales/Premieres

28 May

We’re thrilled to report Chris Prynoski of Titmouse Studios has agreed to do an interview with us!

Really psyched about that. I will have that up soon.

In other news, all the FOX shows had their season finales (The Simpsons, American Dad!, Family Guy/Cleveland Show, and Bob’s Burgers), just as South Park (Comedy Central, Wednesdays), Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1, Superjail, (Sundays, adult swim) Regular Show, Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball (Cartoon Network, all on Mondays) seasons are running strong!

Also SERIOUSLY looking forward to the new season of Futurama and Ugly Americans starting Thursday, June 23rd on Comedy Central!

The Simpsons of course ended with the Edna Krabappel/Ned Flanders romance (“NEDNA”) and you can vote on whether or not that should continue here (http://thesimpsons.com/nedna).

Another poll of note is for the #1 “best animated series of all time” being done amongst a “25 Greatest Animated TV Shows” feature by Entertainment Weekly here — I feel they omit a lot of shows, but major shows are included. Vote!

And don’t forget to follow us on Twitter (twitter.com/AnimatedTVShows).

More soon! Thanks for reading.

AQUA UNIT PATROL SQUAD 1! And more.

26 Apr

As many people know, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is and has been my favorite cartoon for many years now.

The absurdity, the weirdness, and all-out ability to take every 11-minute episode ANYWHERE has always been one of its’ greatest traits.

Yesterday during the also-excellent new episode of Superjail! (titled “Hotchick”) and later during Aqua Teen itself, a promo for the new re-imagining of Aqua Teen was shown.

According to creator Dave Willis, they’re calling it Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1, and the art looks really great. Looks like they’re taking Frylock, Shake and Meatwad back to their detective roots.

See the press release by Meatwad embedded in this article about it.

As soon as someone puts the killer trailer/teaser for it online, I’ll post it here, and at our Twitter.

New episodes of Aqua WHATEVER start May 8th.

As for other upcoming premieres, the new South Park is this Wednesday, called “HUMANCENTiPad” – also looks amazing.

They’re able to pull off the greatest commentary on recent events because they can make episodes so quickly!

Also on Mother’s Day weekend, there are new MacFarlane vehicles (Family Guy, American Dad!, and The Cleveland Show), and probably new Simpsons/Bob’s Burgers too (which I’ve grown to love a lot.)

Saw a great new Simpsons the other day I hadn’t seen, the one where Homer becomes Chunk to accompany Chong! Great ep.

Something else to be excited about, Comedy Central announced last month Futurama will be renewed for two more years at least! Looking forward to those episodes as well. Read about that here.

Until next time, keep watching, and thanks for reading!

Last Sunday’s Animation Domination, Comedy Central shows, and Upcoming Fox Pilot

27 Nov
THE SIMPSONS ANIMATION DOMINATION

The Simpsons - ANIMATION DOMINATION!

Last week’s Sunday animation domination was strange, to say the least.

Really enjoyed the new Simpsons – Mr. Burns losing his memory, and tons of self-deprecation and reference back to The Simpsons Movie.

I always love the Simpsons. Even the weak episodes. This one was better than most.

The Cleveland Show I’ve really come to love – especially lately. The jokes in the first part of the show were DYNAMITE, and then I thought MacFarlane would tackle the whole USA weight issue better, but it came across as clunky and blame-y at the end. Still good overall (I’m a chubby chaser).

As for Family Guy, I always dislike Brian-heavy episodes lately, especially ones where he’s acting like a jerk – in this case, to Stewie. It was interesting social commentary but not really that funny. (Strange, huh?)

Is Brian’s character modeled after Seth MacFarlane, or just his real voice? Because if that’s how Seth really is, bad news! Ha.

Finally, American Dad – good last week but nondescript. And as everyone knows, I LOVE American Dad – even more than Family Guy.

This week’s South Park was excellent too, although I missed the new Ugly Americans.

And I almost forgot – the Futurama Christmas/Holiday Special they showed on Thanksgiving! Not too laugh-out-loud funny but some really cool stuff in there – references back to past episodes, etc.

Looking forward to the big holiday special this week on The Simpsons, and the new MacFarlane shows too.

Also coming this week either before or after The Simpsons is a preview of the new show Bob’s Burgers (http://www.fox.com/programming/shows/?sh=bobs-burgers) which is made by Loren Bouchard of Home Movies fame.

Could be good.

More soon – thanks for reading, keep watching. We will!

Also be sure to check us out on Twitter. We’re also going to be more active on the adultswim.com boards and the Toonzone boards.
